Director Dr Biju has shared an incident he had to witness recently, on his social networking page. The incident happened today morning at Payyannur railway station, where he had arrived to catch a train. The station authorities or the police had not yet been informed, and the people gathered were casually discussing what to do but noone took the initiative to go inform the station master. Since time was running out and a train could come on the track any time and crush the body yet again, Dr Biju finally ran across to the first platform, although it was time for his train. Four youngsters, who work in television serial industry, have a whale of time in their apartment till they come across a 'friendly' ghost, Lechmi (Parvathy Ratheesh). She has lost her memory and tries to recall all about her past. The scenes of their meeting with Lechmi and subsequent incidents lack the depth to convince viewers about the supernatural activities going on inside the flat. Debutant filmmaker B.N. Shajeer Sha does not show any consistency in the treatment owing to the inaccuracy in his screenplay. Naval Enna Jewel Movie Review

Story: Naval and her mother are victims of an ‘Arabikkalyanam’, and Naval is sentenced to death for a crime she is forced to commit. Will she escape the noose or not? Review: Asma, a Malayali mother married off as a teenager to an Arab, finds herself widowed and isolated in an alien land very soon. She resorts to desperate measures to shiled herself from sexual abuse and to bring up her daughter, Naval, to be educated and empowered. However, both end up facing the same kind of exploitation and abuse by men. The film is set in Iran, and the goes back and forth in time. In the present, you see a young Naval in an Iranian prison sentenced to death, who relates her past to her fellow prisoner. The film does have a brilliant story, no doubt, with an unpredictable twist at the end but the way it is executed leaves a lot to be desired. It attempts to address several issues faced by women, but at the end they all get lost owing to an overly dramatic script. There is a segment involving...

A visual-less teaser that lines up a variety of prayers, humorous movie dialogues centered around calling out to the Gods and the names of the cast and crew, it follows quite a novel format. Chunkzz Movie Review

Story: When a girl joins midway through the final academic year in an all-boys mechanical engineering department of an engineering college, all hell breaks loose. The boys are quick to anoint her the ‘mech rani’ and she is only too happy to enjoy the attention. Meanwhile, a one-way love track also develops, parallelly. Review: The arrival of a girl into an all-men world has often been a situation that offers enough fodder for laughs, fun and stories in our movies. Trivandrum Lodge, Ammayane Sathyam, In Harihar Nagar, and more can be lined up, if we think about Mollywood alone. Chunkzz too, borrows this situation and banks on a much-relatable setting for the present day youngsters, a department in an engineering college. The trick here is to bank on it by creating as much situational humour as possible, and showcasing some nostalgic imagery. In the film, ‘Chunk bros’ Romario, Atmaram, Riyas and Yudas are classmates in the mechanical engineering department of a college and they alw...

Thrissivaperoor Kliptham Movie Review

Thrissivaperoor Kliptham STORY: As part of experiencing the joys of life, young and coy Girijavalabhan (Asif Ali) gets to be part of a four-member Thrissur gang led by David Pauly (Chemban Vinod). The gang also has an adversary in former schoolmate Joy, who belittles them at every turn. One of their plans to avenge and outdo Joy becomes a launchpad for Giri to shine. But will they succeed? Thrissivaperoor Kliptham REVIEW: From the very first audio byte and visuals of Thrissivaperoor Kliptham, debutant director Ratheish Kumar makes it clear the kind of jokes the movie will have and that it will be a proper entertainer, without any experimental gimmicks. Thrissur and its people are the heart of the film, and for the major part of first half Ratheish introduces the characters – one by one – along with highlighting their virtues and vices. Chemban Vinod’s David Pauly is the first to be introduced – a middle-aged macho man whose alcoholism has got his family so worried that they force...

Clint-Malyalam movie review

Clint Story: The film is based on the real life story of the child prodigy Edmund Thomas Clint, who passed away at the age of six, leaving behind a treasure trove of critically acclaimed paintings. Clint Review: Clint lived only for six years, but the little inimitable painter was a phenomenon in the world of art. Director Harikumar’s film, based on the life of the wonder kid, is also the tale of his parents M T Joseph and Chinnamma. Though Clint passed away at the height of his fame, one of the reasons why he still remains alive in our minds is as they did their best to preserve his works, memories and stories. Clint starts off on a documentary mode, with Harikumar chatting with Joseph and Chinnamma. It soon transforms into a movie, in which you see a 5-year-old Clint who is ever immersed in sketches and colours. Though they aren’t different from the rest of the world on many accounts, his dad and mom are no ordinary parents. They stand by Clint’s wishes to spend his time drawin...
